Taking that make-up downtown!

And when I say downtown, I mean your neck.

In my most recent make-up class, my teacher began docking points off of the student’s looks because they weren’t applying foundation and powders to their neck area. At first, I thought he was being ridiculous, but after applying foundation and powder to my neck, I found out what he was talking about. Now I’m going to get in depth here about the neck area.

I’m pretty sure about 3 out of every 5 women don’t care for their neck as much as they should. I was one of those women so I know where I made the mistakes.

Mistake number one!

When I would wash my face, I would ignore my neck area. Don’t get me wrong, when I shower I would wash my neck, but unless your wearing a turtle neck all the time, your neck gets extremely dirty. Along with washing your neck area, you should also apply toner and moisturize that area! This helps over time when you begin aging as well.

Mistake number dos!

Forgetting to take the foundation down the neck! Now, I know you’re supposed to buy foundation that matches your neck color, but a lot of times, ladies don’t do that. Instead, lightly take some foundation down the neck and blend in. In doing so, you have a more even complexion not only on your face, but going down your neck as well.

Mistake number three plus tip!

Now I know that we all contour and high light in different ways. Each of us has our own face shape and our own idea of what is good contouring. I’m not saying that ladies are getting the contouring area wrong, but they are getting the shape wrong. Especially the neck area.

Example 1

Mistake: When contouring the cheekbones, a straight line is made from ear to the mouth.

Fix: Poke around your cheek until you find the hinge between your jaws. Start there and then slightly curve under the apple of your cheeks and blend.  This creates a more natural contour.

Example 2

Mistake: Contouring the nose bridge too low and too thick. If contoured too high, you get the appearance of a very large nose, with a thick contour along the sides, you are actually widening your nose.

Fix: Draw a thin line from the top of the nose bridge (the area where your forehead dips down to meet your nose), down to the beginning of the nostril. Lightly blend down. This creates a straighter, thinner nose.

Example 3

Mistake: Contouring along the jawline.

Fix: For a slender jawline and no double chin, contour underneath the jawline and lightly highlight the jawline. The contour underneath the jawline with help hide a double chin, while the highlight focuses on your best features. Take the contour down the neck for a more thinner neck.

So ladies, say it with me! “I solemnly swear I will start paying more attention to my neck!”

Hope this helps you out!

Entry #2 for Pinkstylist’s “Villians in Vogue” Contest

Good evening all my lovely Bon-Bons out there! I’m just taking a quick second to upload my second entry for the contest.

There it is! This villian is The Heart Collector!

A day before she was supposed to get married, her fiance ran off and cheated on her. She was so distraught that she summoned a demon to kill him. He made a deal with her that she would be able to get her revenge on all the happy couples in the world and she agreed. Now when she finds happy couples who are deep in love, she tears out their hearts and eats them.

Hope you guys like it! Thanks so much for reading! 😀

Finding Inspiration

Good morning my lovely Bon-Bons. I hope you are doing well.

Truthfully I am stuck in a rut. I want to enter this challenge by Pinkstylist on Youtube where you create your own “Villain in Vogue”.

There’s the link if you want to check it out

Now basically all you have to do is create of video response of your villain. It can be just make-up, or you can add special effects if you’d like. You can also submit four different villains to up your chances of winning.

Now I really want to make a video because I want to get my skills out there and what better place to do that then on Youtube judged by other Youtube Gurus who have so much talent and that could give me some advice!

The only problem is you have to create an “Original” villain. It might sound easy, but almost everything is taken already! I started doing one make-up and half way through I realized it was a knock-off of Cruela De Ville. I’ve been looking through everything possible to try and find some inspiration. Hopefully I find some soon.

I hope some of you Bon-Bons will join! I really want to see what people think of!

Thanks for reading!

(P.S.) I applied to a local cosmetics company and hopefully I get the job! 😀

Beginner’s Theater Make-Up Class Haul

Hello my lovely Bon-Bons!

Let me just tell you, today has been awesome! I had a great night’s sleep, had an awesome dream, woke up feeling refreshed and energized, ate some delicious pancakes, went shopping, had AppleBee’s for dinner and came home to blog about it. 🙂

Anyway, the reason we went shopping today was because I needed supplies for my new Beginner’s Theater Make-Up class. I didn’t even know colleges gave this course! If you go to a community college and want to study make-up but don’t have a lot of money, you should definitely check if your college has a theater make-up class. I had to pay nothing for the class. Zero, Zilch, Nada! The only thing I had to pay for were the supplies and that’s pretty average for any schooling. I am going to show what I got, how it’s used in actual theater, and what we are probably going to be doing with it in class. Let’s start with the pictures!

2013-02-10_20-51-07_730So this is what the box looks like. It looks small, but they packed this small box with a lot of products. Now when I was doing research for prices, some places sold the kit for $80 dollars which is A LOT of money for a small beginner’s kit. The prices varied from $80 to $60 dollars so I was really worried about spending a lot of money on this thing but, the place that we went to was SUPER cheap. The store I went to was Naimie’s Beauty Center. It was the closest beauty store that sold theater make-up so I just went there. I am so happy I did. The store helped find what I was looking for… sorta, but I’ll get back to that later. When I paid, the asked me why I needed the kit and when I told them for a class, they gave me a student discount on the spot! 😀 So instead of paying 55 dollars for the kit they sold, I only paid $44.33!!! Sweet right?? I am definitely going to be shopping there for my special effects make-up needs.

ANYWAY!! Let’s see what’s in the kit, shall we?

2013-02-10_20-52-09_339

This is really nothing, but in the kit you get some cosmetic sponges for applying the foundation and blending in colors, a giant soft puff to apply powders, a small texture sponge (the small black thing on the puff), a brow and lash comb, and some cosmetic Q-tips. I believe the sponge is for adding texture to wax or latex. A classmate said he saw guys adding texture to a fake beard so that will be useful. Now I know some people will think, “Q-tips? Really?” But they are a super tool that you NEED in your make-up kit. If you make a mistake on your eye liner, you can use the pointed end to straighten the edge or if your concealer is creasing in the fine lines, you can gently dab the dome end to pick up the extra product.

Ben Nye Foundations

Now these three pots are the most important piece of the kit. These are the foundation colors. In each set you get three colors. You want to make sure that the middle shade matches your skin tone. That way, the darker shade is contour, and the lighter shade is highlight. These foundations look like they are children’s make-up but they are super creamy, super pigmented, and easily blended. I was lucky to have a lady match my color, but if you are having trouble, just buy one that is close enough to your skin tone, then use the other colors to mix and match until you have the perfect color!

Ben Nye Contour Wheel

This is the Creme Contour Wheel. You get four colors which are all used to contour, define, and to add color. You get a creme contour shade, two blushes, and  black creme color which is used for defining. The pictures give the blush colors no justice at all. One is a dusty rose color(top left) and the other is a peachy pink tone blush(bottom left). Both are super pigments so I’ll have to be careful when applying them. Now that I’m typing everything down, I’m noticing that there are a lot of things that can be used as contour shades. Oh well I guess. ONWARDS!

Ben Nye Abrasion WheelThis is actually a fun wheel to mess with. This is the FX Color Wheel for creating Bruises and Abrasions. When I was in Drama back in high school, a friend bought this to school and we were all messing with the colors, I gave myself a black eye and when I was walking in the hallways after class, I actually got stopped by a few teachers asking me if it I was getting bullied or anything. I was laughing while I smeared the creme so that they could see that it was just make-up. Sorry for drifting off! Here you have a 4-color wheel with a red color, a bright yellow color, a dark blue, and a purple color. When you layer these colors and blend, you can create very believable bruises and if you want to go a step further, you can add latex into the make-up and make your skin look bloody and swollen. Cool huh? I can’t wait to use this in class.

Ben Nye Quad

These are four little color pots for you to use. The dark brown shade (top left) is a “Character Definer” or a contour shade so you can add depth (see there’s another contour shade!), a nude tone shade (top right) which is actually very photogenic. It appears white in the picture but it’s actually a peach color. It’s labeled “Highlight” and that’s exactly what it does. On the bottom right is a white creme face paint. It is, however extremely thick, so I recommend mixing it with light foundation to make it easier to blend in to the skin and also so that you don’t waste as much. On the bottom left is actually a powder blush in a pinkish rose color. It’s super pigmented and very easy to blend in.

Here's a close up of the blush color

Here’s a close up of the blush color

2013-02-10_20-55-42_910Next up is a small jar of Liquid Latex. Now this product is going to be your new best friend. You can do sooooooooo many things with liquid latex. You can also USE many things with liquid latex. I’ve seen a guy create scars and bumps on his face by adding tissues into some liquid latex. You can use it as adhesive, to create small details, as well and smoothing out the edges on a silicone prosthetic. Oh but it does smell really bad so I feel sorry for the people who have to apply it all over their face.

Ben Nye Scar WaxThis is your second best friend, Nose and Scar Wax. Pair this up with the latex and you can go far my friends. You can create scars, give your nose a new shape, add texture into a fantasy make-up (i.e. alien, monster, bestial). I can not wait until we use this in class. I’ll definitely go crazy and probably make myself look like Edward Scissorhand with all the scars I’ll have on my face.

2013-02-10_21-01-39_535

This is just some translucent setting powder so that your creme foundation doesn’t slip and slide while your applying any of your other make-up. Translucent means it’s basically a powder that’s “clear”? I don’t know how to explain it other than it matches any skin tone. It comes in a cute salt shaker bottle.

2013-02-10_21-02-14_95

These two go hand in hand together. First you have the small jar which is Spirit Gum. It’s used as the adhesive in make-up. You can use to stick wax, prosthetics, and other materials onto your face. It’s very strong so be careful when applying this. Make sure you have an even layer. The bigger bottle is just special soap to make removing the Spirit Gum easier.

2013-02-10_21-01-09_937

I am not sure what this is used for actually. It says “Snow White Hair Color” so I’m guessing if you are ever doing old age make-up, you can brush a small amount through your hair to add old grey hair.

2013-02-10_20-59-41_430

You also get a small bottle of fake blood in kit! Awesome! I wasn’t expecting this but now if I ever need to do a zombie/vampire/monster make-up with blood, I am set! 🙂

2013-02-10_20-58-45_608In the kit, you also get 3 pencils. One is a lip liner, the other are brow pencils. I actually consider the black to be an eye liner because almost no one has natural black eye brows. They are usually just a dark brown color. Black would be too harsh as a brow color so I’ll probably just be using it as a liner. The lip liner is a pretty pink rose. Very versatile as well, you could probably use it under a tone of colors. I’m pretty sure you could tone down red lipstick with the cool pink underneath. The brown brow pencil is pretty much just that, a brown brow pencil. The lip liner is creamy, but the other pencils have a slight drag on the skin and that’s one thing I don’t like.

That’s it for the kit. I did also get 2 small brushes but I some how forgot to take pictures of them so… yeah. I did also buy 3 other products other than the kit so let me show you right now!

2013-02-10_21-00-14_636This is the Ben Nye Contour shade in D-01. See!? Contour again! It’s not like I want all these contour shades, it’s just that my teacher said we need this one. It’s completely matte and has a very soft finish. It also blends like it’s nobodies business as well. That’s it for all the make-up now and whew! I am tired!

2013-02-10_20-59-20_814Last two things are just brushes. Nothing fancy just a soft large shadow brush and a large detail brush. That’s it.

Man this post is extremely long! For some reason I feel sorry. 😦

Thank you so much for reading, if you even read all the way through. As soon as class starts, I’ll be posting about what we’ve been learning and if we do any cool make-ups, I’ll post pics on how we did it. Again thanks so much for reading!

Update on Birthday Haul

Good evening my Bon-Bons!!
I am just doing a quickie update on a few products I got in my birthday haul. It’s been a few days so I have reviewed all of them and these reviews are my honest answers.

Ok! First up is the Benefits “They’re Real” mascara. I was so disappointed. I have heard only good things about this product but to me, it did not work. Maybe because it was a sample size and it could have been old already but the mascara gave me spider leg lashes. If there is one giant peeve I have  about make up, it’s spider leg lashes. Ugh! Makes me shiver in my seat. Anyway, the mascara clumped a lot. Yes, it didn’t make my lashes the blackest I’ve ever seen them, but I prefer length. I have  full lashes, they’re just short. But clumping is a mega no-no. Thank goodness it washed out easy for me.

Next is the NYX “mood” lip gloss. Like I said in my haul post, this has become my new go-to lip gloss. It gives amazing colour and shine without being sticky. I’ve also put it on top of my new lip liners and I created a gorgeous coral pink lip. This is an amazing product and for $4.99 I definitely recommend you go out and try this product.

Next is another amazing product and that is my NYX B-15 brush. This holy grail product makes blending so easy it should be illegal. It fits great in the outer crease area and just smokes out the shadows so awesomely. One thing I like to do is add a tiny amount of a nude colour shadow to the brush to help blend away harsh lines. I love this product! Maybe there are better ones, but for being so cheap it works great.

Last but not least is the NYX waterproof concealer. Now I have mixed feelings about this product. When I applied it, it went on creamy and gave me some great coverage, but over the day I noticed it kind of just melted off. I had to touch up in just three hours because it looked like it was fading away. If you’re wondering, yes I did set the concealer with powder but it still wore off. I can’t really give it a bad review because it was only $5.99. Amazing concealers can average out to cost about 15 bucks and it DID work before it faded. Since its all I have right now I will continue to use it. Hopefully I figure out how to fix the problem.

That’s it for this post! Thank you so much for reading and I hope you all have an awesome day

XOXO

Birthday Make-Up Haul :)

Good evening my lovely Bon-Bons! Oh how I missed you!

I am so so so so extremely sorry for not posting an update on Face Off Episode 3. The cold really knocked me on my back and I had to just stay in bed for a few days. But I am back! Livelier than ever!

Now as the title says, today is my 19th birthday! So happy birthday to me! 😀

I got 40 dollars from my mom, so where else to go but to the mall right?

The only on my mind was, “how can I really stretch my dollar?” Plus, it’s my birthday! I wanted to pamper myself! First I went into this little boutique that had NYX cosmetics. I was jumping for joy because I have only heard good things about NYX, especially their blushes. One thing I still want to this day is the Crismon Amulet Collection they made for the movie Dark Shadows. If anyone has an unopened box, I will gladly take it out of your hands. 😀

Let’s get on with the haul shall we?

2013-02-03_19-53-02_247 First up is….. Ta-dah! Some new concealer. I have noticed that I am very picky about my concealers. I need the ultimate coverage because I have hyper-pigmentation under my eyes and around my lips. I know I can cancel it out with some color correctors, but I don’t have the kind of money to experiment with different products. When I tried the sample, it came out super creamy and blended in well with a scar I have on my wrist (from my cat, I swear!). For a stick concealer, it gave awesome coverage. I’ll have to do an update on this though because I need to see how long it can last with only some setting powder.

2013-02-03_19-48-59_246 A big thank you to my cat Wafers. He was an awesome model for me today. The second thing I picked out was the new NYX “mood” lip gloss. I saw a few Youtube Guru’s talking about this and I had to try it out. It starts off as a clear gloss, and I think the heat of your lips changes the color into a shade of a pretty mauve pink. I tried it out and it’s very shiny and extremely cute. It’s also not very sticky, so for me it was very comfortable. This will probably be my Go-To lip gloss from now on.

2013-02-03_19-53-32_471 2013-02-03_19-54-08_901

Next up are two lip liners that I picked out. I chose a nude pink color and a nice deep reddish plum color. The darker color is called “Burgundy” while the lighter color is “Nude Pink”. I don’t really know what to say because I’ve only ever worn a red lip liner under my red lipstick. They do look like beautiful colors though.

2013-02-03_19-51-25_398  Last but not least from NYX is a new eye shadow brush! I am in dire need of new brushes, especially for the eyes. All of the brushes I saw were very soft. The particular one I chose is labeled the B-15 “Smokie” brush. It’s super soft but super dense as well. I can’t to try it on a new eye look tomorrow! 😀

Now it’s time for my little slice of paradise! Even though I did want to stretch my dollar, as soon as I walked into Sephora, I couldn’t help myself. Now it may seem a little strange, but I like it and I can’t wait to fill it up!

2013-02-03_19-57-02_4902013-02-03_19-57-21_120

I got the Urban Decay Customizable Palette. Yes it only has one eye shadow, but I don’t really play with eye shadows as much as it is. I think of it as my starting kit for some awesome shadows quads. The shadow I got along with it lovely taupe shade with some shimmer on it called “Breathless”. Awesome right? I am a neutral fanatic so I love the shadow.

2013-02-03_19-47-52_580 2013-02-03_19-55-19_629

Since it was my birthday and I am a part of Sephora’s Beauty Insider Program, I got some free samples! I got Benefit’s “They’re Real!” mascara and the “Watt’s Up!” Highlighter. There’s a lot of product in the highlighter sample. I think it’ll last me a long time since I only put on a small amount of highlighter on my cheekbones.

Well that’s it for the haul! I shall now label the prices and such in case some of you ladies have a tight budget, but want some new products too!

Prices

NYX Incredible Waterproof Concealer – $5.99

NYX “Mood” Lip Gloss – $4.99

NYX Lip Liner Pencils – $1.99 each

NYX B-15 Shadow Brush – $5.99

Urban Decay Build Your Own Shadow Palatte – $18.00 (worth it!)

That’s it for today! Thank you so much for reading and I hope you guys are having an awesome day and I hope you have an awesome weekend as well!

XOXO
